MUSICA GENERA FESTIVAL 2006
International Festival of Improvised and Experimental Music

May 26-27-28 2006, Szczecin, Poland

Musica Genera Festival is an annual musical festivity. It presents current trends in the aesthetic which was shaped by over fifty years of experimental music history and almost fourty years of explorations in the field of improvisation. In the year 2006 the festival will take place for the fifth time and - as a jubilee - is a kind of recapitulation. As an artistic space, the MGF 2006 will also continue some threads of the previous editions.

The festival is adressed to an audience looking for new forms and sounds in music. Musica Genera Festival is a peculiar sound laboratory created by extraordinary artists, their phenomenal skills and imagination. Including also the visual component (multimedia spectacles, installations and film screenings), the festival shows the today's improvised and experimental music in a broader aesthetic context.

MGF festival is an open project brought to life by the artists' engagement. As an already established tradition, the event's characteristic is to present projects especially prepared for this international forum of modern sound art. That is why some of the festival presentations will be world premieres and - in case of the films - Polish premieres.

The artists featured this year include world class musicians like the American composer and visual artist John Duncan, Austria's Christian Fennesz, commonly perceived as one of the most original innovators of guitar/laptop fusion, the digital synthesizers expert Marcus Schmickler (Germany), the Norwegian duo JAZZKAMMER - Lasse Marhaug and John Hegre, turntable experimentalists Dieb 13 (Austria) and Ferran Fages (Spain), multi-instrumental improvisers Alfredo Costa Monteiro (Portugal), GŁnter MŁller (Switzerland), Anna Zaradny (Poland), Tony Buck (Australia), Burkhard Stangl (Austria) and Cor Fuhler (Holland), artists form the common ground of sound and installation Norbert MUslang (Switzerland) and Michael Vorfeld (Germany), rock and DJ improvisors Macio Moretti (Poland) and DJ Lenar (Poland), analogue sound synthesis system operator Thomas Ankersmit (Holland), Jean Philippe Gross (France), Robert Piotrowicz (Poland), and the composer and performer Daniel Menche (USA).

The festival's programme, in addition to concerts, includes the audiovisual installation by Michael Vorfeld, the premiere screening of Gustav Deutsch's "Film ist", and also " another premiere " the performance of audiovisual spectacle TOJ TOJ by Matylda Sałajewska and Michał Kopaniszyn in cooperation with Anna Zaradny and Robert Piotrowicz.

Musica Genera Festival always takes place in several venues, the main stage and festival central point being the Kana Theatre. Other venues include the Castle Opera, industrial interiors of the former City Slaughterhouse located on the Łasztownia island and also the National Museum.

Dozens of performers from around the globe (Europe, Asia, North and South America) have already performed at the Musica Genera Festival. The artists invited to Szczecin present strong creative personalities. They are the individuals setting trends in the modern experimental music. The festival is accompanied by CD releases. Each edition brings the release of one of the previous festivals' concerts. The premiere of the 4th festival CD - the Grydeland/Lehn/Zach trio live recording - will take place on May 26th. It will be accompanied by another new release from MG - Connector: Karkowski/Courtis/Genovart/Haro/Reche.
